  Cream or white-coloured powder.  
  Uses  
  Sodium Sulphite Anhydrous is used in the household chemistry industry, thermal-electric power industry, paper industry in bleaching process, in water treatment as an oxygen scavenger, and in the textile industry as an antichlor.

  Transport information  
  Sodium Sulphite Anhydrous should be transported in packages in covered  railway wagons or lorries, although it is not mentioned in RID.  
 

HEALTH AND SAFETY INFORMATION  

 
  Warning  
  Persons suffering from asthma or other respiratory problems should avoid any contact with or exposure to Sodium Sulphite Anhydrous.    
  Handling Precautions  
  Wear goggles and dust mask when handling bulk quantities. Do not store near acids or oxidizing agents. Keep dry and in sealed containers.  
  Hazards  
  Reacts with acids with liberation of sulphur dioxide, a choking, toxic gas  . Nitric acid may react violently. Sodium Sulphite Anhydrous is non-flammable but will decompose in a fire with liberation of sulphur dioxide. Suitable fire extinguishers: water.  
  First Aid  
  Eyes: Wash out with water for at least 15 minutes.  
  Mouth: Wash out with water , if the chemical has been  swallowed give water, milk of magnesia or milk to drink.  
  Skin: Wash off with planty of water.  
  Inhalation: Remove the person out of the danger area to fresh air.  Obtain  medical attention.   
  Spillage  
  Sweep up spilled substance into plastic bag. Rinse up with water.  
  Warranty period is one year from analysis (testing) date.
